The King of the Elves - part 1
Jamie was a fifteen year old freshman at New Town High School. Her father had passed away a few months earlier and ever since her mother has been so full of grief that she didn’t seem to care about Jamie anymore. Jamie had to deal with the grief herself everyday until one day her life way changed forever….
Jamie was walking home from school on a Friday afternoon. She was not looking forward to the weekend ahead. She used to back when her father was still alive, but all the weekends did was cause tension between her and her mother. She sighed as she reached the front door of her house. She put her hand in her pocket and pulled out a key. She shoved it into the lock and turned it. Then she opened the door and slowly walked
"I’m home!" she shouted.
There was no answer. Jamie sighed again and then walked upstairs to her room and shut the door behind her. She had just started on her homework when she heard her mother coming down the hall. She heard a loud "thump" of a laundry basket hitting the floor by her bedroom door. Then she heard her mother walking back down the hall again. Jamie sighed got up from her desk and walked over the door. She opened it then bent down to pick up the laundry basket and brought it inside her room. She started hanging her shirts in the closet. When she had put all the clothes away she placed the basket back outside her bedroom door. Then she walked over to her desk and went back to her homework.
When she had finished her homework she went over to lay down on her bed. She started to pray silently to herself.
"I wish my life was happier and that I had someone
who loved me and cared for me." she prayed, "Please God I can’t live like this anymore!"
Then she cried herself to sleep
The next day she woke up and looked out the window. Her tear stained face was shining in the sunlight. Then she noticed a brown eagle staring at her from a branch outside her bedroom window. She stared at the bird for a few minutes then got up and went downstairs to have breakfast. When she got to the kitchen she realized that she was the only one in the house.
"Great." said Jamie annoyed, "She left me again."
After breakfast she walked back upstairs to her room and picked out a pair of jeans and a T-shirt and got dressed. She saw the same bird she saw earlier still watching her from her window. She walked back downstairs and went through the front door. She walked down the street to a nearby park and sat down on one of the park benches, watching the children play.
Jamie sat there all day thinking about her life and debating whether she should go back home or run away. The sun started to go down and the sky grew darker. Still Jamie continued to sit there. The sky became totally black and everyone had gone home leaving her alone. She sat there for a long while after that.
"I will not go home." she said to herself.
Then suddenly the same brown eagle she’d seen earlier swooped down and landed in front of her. Before she could say or do anything the eagle transformed into a being with long pointed ears, a tall, thin body, a handsome face, and long blond hair.
"Hello Jamie" he said.
"Who are you?" Jamie asked.
"My name is Dymus, king of the elves." he replied.
"How do you know my name?" she asked puzzled.
"I’ve been watching you Jamie." he said, "Surly you’ve seen my eagle form before."
"Yes, outside my bedroom window." replied Jamie, "What do you want?"
"I came to make your wish come true." he said, "To give you a better life"
Jamie started to get excited. Dymus held out his hand to her.
"Come to my world and you’ll never be sad again" said Dymus with a smile.
Jamie took his hand and they disappeared in a sudden burst of green flames. The next thing she knew she was standing in a huge golden room holding Dymus’ hand.
"Wow!" Jamie gasped excitedly.
"This is the throne room of my castle." explained Dymus, "You’ll notice that there are two thrones, one for you and one for me."
"You mean I get to be queen?" Jamie asked in an excited voice.
"That’s right!" Dymus replied smiling.
Jamie thought of something as she looked up at Dymus observing his pointed ears.
"But how? I’m not an elf."
she said suddenly.
"You don’t have to be." Dymus said, "I’ll love you either way."
Jamie smiled and Dymus smiled back.
"Come, I’ll give you a tour of the castle." he said.
"Ok." Jamie replied and then followed him down through the long corridors.
"Are you getting hungry?" asked Dymus as they got near the kitchen.
"Yeah, a little." she replied.
"Let’s have dinner then." he said.
"Sure, but what do you elves eat?" she asked.
"Meat, vegetables, fruits, same things you do." he replied.
"Oh ok, just making sure.’’ said Jamie.
Dymus chuckled as they walked down the hall to the kitchen. There they were greeted by two elves whom appeared to be servants.
"Tetrimus, Symus make us dinner." Dymus commanded.
"Right away your majesty." replied the servants as they rushed into the kitchen to start cooking.
Dymus lead Jamie into the eating room where he pulled out a chair and Jamie sat down. Then he went to the chair on the other side of the table and sat down. He stared across the table at her smiling and she stared back. They waited about ten minutes then the servants came in carrying a big tray of meat and potatoes and set it on the table.
"Thank you." Jamie said politely.
"Our pleasure my lady!" replied the servants with a smile.
Then the servants gave them a bow then left the room. Dymus and Jamie began to eat the meat and potatoes.
"Mmmmm this is delicious!" Jamie exclaimed through a mouthful of potatoes.
"I’m glad you like it." replied Dymus with a smile.
When they had finished their meal the servants came back and took away the plates. When they had gone back to the kitchen Dymus looked Jamie in the eyes again.
"Let’s go for a walk." he said, "I want to give you a tour of the
"Ok that sounds like fun!" Jamie replied.
They got up from the table and Dymus took Jamie’s hand again. Then they walked down the long corridors together until they reached massive front door. Jamie had never seen the city before. She’d only seen the castle in the short time she’d been there. She watched in amazement as Dymus lifted his forefinger towards the door and made a circle in the air.
"Open!" he commanded making the massive doors start to open.
"It had to be magic." Jamie thought to herself.
Dymus had begun to walk out through the doors so Jamie followed him. She gasped at the sight of what she thought was the most beautiful city she’d ever seen in her life.
"Wow!" Jamie said in amazement.
Dymus smiled at her and then put his are around her.
"This place has to be the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life!" Jamie said with excitement.
"Really? You think so?" Dymus asked with a smile.
"I sure do!" Jamie said smiling back at Dymus.
Dymus’ smile widened then he gave her a hug.
"I hope you will be happy here." said Dymus.
"Oh I’m pretty sure I will." replied Jamie.
Then Jamie reached up and gave Dymus a kiss on the cheek. Then he blushed and gave her his biggest smile.
"I love you Jamie." he said still blushing.
"I love you too Dymus." replied Jamie.
Then holding hands they walked down the stairs in front of the castle. When they reached the bottom of the stairs Dymus stopped and turned to look at her.
"Welcome to Mesodel, city of the elves." he said with a grin.
"It’s beautiful!" Jamie said.
Then they went down the street. Dymus introduced her to almost every elf they passed. When they came across Dymus’ best friend, he said something that got her really
"Hello Tutamus!" Dymus said to his friend.
"Hello Dymus! Who’s this pretty young lady you’re walking with?" asked Tutamus.
"Tutamus I’d like you to meet Jamie, she is now queen of the elves." said Dymus happily.
"Hello Jamie!’’ Tutamus greeted, "Welcome."
"Hello!" Jamie replied.
Dymus turned his head towards Jamie and kissed her on the lips making Tutamus giggle.
"I see you two really love each other." said Tutamus.
"Yes we do!" Jamie and Dymus said together smiling.
"Well I got to go, you two have fun on your walk!" Tutamus said.
"Don’t worry I’m sure we will." Dymus chuckled.
They waved goodbye then started back on their walk again. Jamie took in all of the beauty of the buildings, trees and flowers as they walked down the streets. Soon they came across a field full of tall grasses and many different colors of flower
beds. Dymus lead Jamie to the middle of the field where they sat down in the tall grasses. They placed their arms around each other and relaxed in the grass together. Then they laid back in the grass and looked up at the sky.
"Look Jamie, that cloud looks like a monkey!" Dymus said hoping to make Jamie laugh.
Jamie looked over at Dymus and laughed. Then she looked back up at the sky again.
"That one over there looks like an elephant!" said Jamie smiling.
They turned their heads towards each other and laughed. They continued to lay there until the sky had become dark and they both fell asleep.
The next morning Tutamus stood over them smiling.
"Wow Dymus I’ve never seen you sleep outside your castle before!" he said loudly.
Jamie and Dymus then suddenly sit up and look up at him and started to laugh.
"Well you didn’t have to wake us like that!" Dymus said amused.
"Sorry, but you two looked so funny just lying there in the grass with your arms around each other. I just had to do that." replied Tutamus.
Dymus and Jamie glanced at each other and laughed. Then they got up and Dymus walked over and put his hand on his friend’s shoulder.
"Did we really look that funny looking?" Dymus asked still smiling.
"Well I thought so." said Tutamus, "Mind if I follow you two into the city?’’
"Not at all." said Dymus, You don’t mind do you Jamie?"
Jamie shook her head and the three of them walked back towards the city laughing. When they got back to the city they walked along a row of golden houses.
"Well here’s my house so I’ll see you two later!" said Tutamus as he walked towards one of the houses.
"Ok see you later buddy!" replied Dymus.
"Bye!" Jamie said waving.
Dymus and Jamie continued to walk until they got back to the castle.
Dymus commanded the door to open then they went inside. When they were all the way inside and the doors had closed Dymus turned to Jamie and they kissed again. This time it was a very long kiss.
After lunch the next day they went for another walk. When they were about halfway down the street they were confronted by two angry looking elves.
"Oh great who’s this? Queen of the elves?" said one of them.
"How can she be? She’s not an elf she’s a human!" said the other.
"You leave her alone!" Dymus shouted at them, "or else!"
"Or else what Dymus?" one of them said, "You must remember, you may be king, but we’re still much stronger and much more powerful than you will ever be!"
Jamie gave Dymus a scared look.
"Jamie, run back to the castle and get my bodyguards quick." Dymus said.
Jamie hesitated then ran back in the direction of the castle, but was grabbed by one of the elves.
"Alright Dymus" the one holding Jamie said, "Do what we say and your girlfriend won’t get hurt."
Dymus’ face went pale then he spoke.
"Alright" he said, "What do you want from me?"
"We want to avenge our father’s death." said the other elf.
Dymus gave them an angry look then he heard Jamie scream and turned around. The elf holding her had a gun pointed at her head.
"You want me you can have me just let Jamie go!" Dymus shouted.
"Alright fine" said the elf then let Jamie go. She ran towards Dymus and was grabbed again.
"You’d better get her out of here or she’ll die with you." said one of them.
"Jamie go back to the castle now!" Dymus shouted.
"I can’t leave you Dymus, they’ll kill him." she cried.
"Jamie go please, for me." Dymus said kindly.
Jamie looked at him one more time then ran back towards the castle. When she got that back to
the castle she ran into the two bodyguards. She stopped and tried to catch her breath.
"Jamie what happened? Where’s Dymus?" one of them asked.
"Two elves confronted us on our walk. You must save Dymus before they kill him!’’ Jamie cried.
"Where are they now do you know?" the guard asked.
"No I don’t" Jamie said.
"It’s ok we’ll find him you stay here." the guard said then he and the other guard ran out the door.
A few minutes after that she heard three gun shots. She busted in to tears. About ten minutes later the guards came back carrying a body that was covered in blood. They placed the body in front of Jamie and she looked down and immediately realized who it was, Dymus. She kelt down on her knees beside and placed two fingers on his neck to try to find a pulse.
"NO!" Jamie screamed, "Please don’t be dead please!"
"We’re so sorry, but they shot him as soon as we got there."
one of the guards said.
"But we did kill the ones who shot him." said the other.
Jamie started to cry again only that harder. Then she kissed him on the lips, got up and slowly walked away.
